Athletics Core Values

The Shelton High School Athletic program is one that reflects the needs and purposes of our student body and community by maintaining a strong sense of pride, tradition, excellence and overall student development.  This is done through a balance of healthy competition, physical training and educational scholarship.  In pursuit of this objective, we recognize the importance of academic responsibility, community service, and the ideals of good sportsmanship.

Athletic Announcements


    NO beverages or outside food is allowed into the stadium  (including coffee, water bottles, gatorade, alcoholic beverages, etc.).  All bags may be searched prior to entry.   The use of Baby Powder or Talcum Powder is not allowed at any time.  Tailgating or loitering in the parking lots before or after the game is not allowed.  By state law, smoking is prohibited on the entire Shelton High School campus.  No re-entry during the game.

  • Winter 2017/2018 - Tryout Information/Sports Physicals

    WINTER sports begin on December 2nd -- (Boys Basketball begins on November 27th).  Winter Sports are Boys/Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Swimming, Boys/Girls Indoor Track and Unified Basketball.   Listen to announcements or check the white board in the Athletic Office for further information.

    Prior to the first date of tryouts/practice, all students must turn in a completed emergency form and have a completed, valid physical examination form on file which extends through the entire sports season.   **NEW RULE FOR 2017 -- Students will not be allowed on a team roster if their physical expires anytime during the season.  


    Sports Physicals are available at either the CVS Minute Clinic in Ansonia ( or the MedExpress Urgent Care in Derby (  There is a nominal charge for sports physicals at these locations.   Download the sports physical below, complete the front page, and bring with you.  


Physical Examination Policy

All athletes must have a current valid physical form on file with the nurses office prior to trying out or practicing with any sports team.  It is our policy that an athlete's physical must be valid for the entire season they are participating in.  Athletes will not be allowed to try out or be placed on a team roster if their physical expires any time during the season including post-season competitions.  Physicals are valid for 13 months from the date of exam.  Athletes must renew their physical every year. Please contact the Athletic Office for assistance if necessary.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY.
