SCIENCE

"It is through science that we prove, but through intuition that we discover." - Jules H. Poincare

Over the summer, K-12 core curriculum committees spent numerous hours on curriculum revisions.  The work involved embedding the Common Core State Standards into each curriculum content area.  Some of these committees will continue with this work during the school year.

All K-12 Science curriculum committees have made revisions to their respective curricula to align to the Common Core State Standards.  At the elementary level, to enhance our K-12 continuum focused around enhancing our STEM initiative, as we begin the implementation phase of "Engineering is Elementary" a.k.a. EiE.  These units of study will be infused in grades 1 through 4.  One EiE unit will be integrated into the current science curriculum to expose students to the principles of early engineering.  Professional development training for classroom teachers to effectively teach using the "Engineering Is Elementary" program will be provided to all teachers in grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 during the school year.

At the high school level, core courses in Biology, Chemistry, General Science, and Physics have been revised to the Common Core State Standards.  This includes a year long curriculum pacing calendar, essential questions and big ideas.  Additional curriculum revisions will be conducted during this school year for the elective courses.
